Like mother, like daughter. A mom and daughter duo received their diplomas Friday as they graduated from Nova Southeastern University.

Angella John and Tiffiny Wilson have always had a mother-daughter bond but they got even closer as study buddies.

"After working in the ICU for six years she said, 'Tiffiny, let's go back to school together,'" Wilson explained.

The pair took classes side by side at NSU. They took home master's degrees on Friday to be advanced practice registered nurses.

"I'm graduating with my master's degree as a family nurse practitioner and I'm doing it with my mother, so I am so excited about that," Wilson said.

Both have a passion for helping people, so they decided to further their careers in nursing.

"So exciting to see the connection between mother, daughter and nursing," said Dr. Marcella Rutherford, Dean of NSU College of Nursing.

The mom and daughter are already registered nurses and plan to keep moving up. The 54-year-old currently works in the cardiovascular progressive care unit at Northwest Medical Center in Margate. The 34-year-old works in intensive care units at Holy Cross Hospital and Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

"We were each other's cheerleaders. When I was, you know, having a lot of issues with class, school, work schedule, she was like you know what, don't give up," Wilson said.

They both encouraged and inspired each other as they completed this next level of education.

"Today is our big day that we can both celebrate our vision together," John said.

The dynamic duo said they hope to open up a primary care or urgent care practice together in the future.
