Officer Joey Diaz, 33, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of domestic battery by strangulation, according to an arrest report.
According to the report, Diaz and his wife were involved in a verbal dispute "over personal property" when it escalated, with Diaz pushing and grabbing his wife by her throat and applying pressure to her neck. There were witnesses to the incident, the report said.
Diaz fled the scene but later surrendered, the report said. Police said he has been relieved of duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

In court Wednesday, Diaz was ordered to stay away from his wife and was ordered held on $2,500 bond. The judge noted he has no prior criminal history.
