A man with a history of theft is back in jail after allegedly stealing wallets left in the sand from tourists in Miami Beach.
Kenneth Collins, 49, is facing charges of third-degree grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card and appeared before a judge in bond court Wednesday.
"The defendant is a prolific thief on the beach," said prosecutor Nessa Eth. "There's a reoccurring issue with this defendant stealing items off the beach from people who are going into the ocean."
The latest victim told detectives he left his wallet in the sand in the 1800 block of Miami Beach and later realized it was missing. He had several credit cards and over $400 cash in the wallet.
Collins subsequently charged $44.28 on a credit card at a Walgreens, prosecutors alleged.
Collins was also convicted back in 2016 and 2017 for unlawful use of a stolen credit card.
The judge gave Collins a stay away order from the public beaches in Miami Beach. Online jail records show he is booked at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on $6,000 bond.
