McCrow was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and the fire department took him to Jackson South Medical Center in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead. He was 56.

His sister, Deidre McCrow, said her brother was one of eight children and had six more adopted siblings. While he did not have children of his own, he was the favorite uncle of so many nieces and nephews.

“He was very loving. If anybody need help, he would try and help,” Deidre McCrow said through tears. “He let people that were living on the street stay at the house.”

She said her brother was loved by many, loved listening to music and had a huge heart.

Police said the suspected shooter is a 35-year-old man who was taken into custody for questioning after he left the scene and came back.

"Initially that individual left the scene, but then returned shortly thereafter when officers were on the scene, I would assume to explain his account of what happened. So what we're in the process of doing right now is interviewing that individual," Detective Andre Martin of Miami-Dade police, said.

Police said it’s unclear who had the gun or exactly how many shots were fired. The suspect's identity has not been released.

“One firearm was recovered on scene and we are working to obtain any other physical evidence. There was a vehicle here just a little while ago that was taken in for processing," Martin said.

Meanwhile, the neighborhood where McCrow grew up and lived, just minutes away from the scene, is left shaken by the loss.

"It’s just a tragedy how people is just killing people, you know. Life matters, all lives matter. They need to make a change because it’s too much killing,” one woman, identified only as Michelle, said.

Police are working to review surveillance video from the gas station.
