‘Why'd you shoot my husband?': Family identifies victim of Lauderdale Lakes shooting

Authorities have detained a person in connection with the incident, though no further details have been released.

A man is dead and another person is in custody following a shooting in Lauderdale Lakes, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO). NBC6’s Lena Salzbank reports.

A man is dead and another person is in custody following a shooting in Lauderdale Lakes, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO).

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of Somerset Drive. When deputies arrived, they found an adult man with a gunshot wound. Paramedics later pronounced him deceased, BSO officials said.

Authorities have detained a person in connection with the incident. BSO's Homicide and Crime Scene units are actively investigating.

NBC6 spoke with the family of the victim, who identified him as Hureleyon McLean, 72. According to the family, the incident began after a dispute over loud music.

McLean’s wife, Rose, told NBC6 that their downstairs neighbor came to their apartment to complain about the loud music. She said her husband went downstairs after the complaint, and it was there that he was shot.

“I walked up to him and asked, ‘Why’d you shoot my husband? Why?’” Rose McLean recalled.

Hureleyon McLean leaves behind two children and grandchildren.

BSO has not released any further details at this time.
