>Zabaleta said the two were in a room having a discussion when the man pulled out a gun and shot himself. It appears the bullet that killed the man hit his girlfriend in the head, Zabaleta said.
"This clearly is a suicide at this point, not necessarily a domestic attempted murder-suicide," Zabaleta said. "It appears that this individual took his own life and in the process almost took his girlfriend's life as well."

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the woman to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in stable condition.
Zabaleta said four of the girlfriend's children, who are all 12 and under and from previous relationships, were in the home at the time but weren't injured.
The girlfriend called police after she'd been hit by the bullet, and one of the children also contacted a family member, who called police, Zabaleta said.
The children were later reunited with family members, Zabaleta said.
"Investigators are going to be talking to them to see in fact what can they provide, what information they can provide that can help them in this investigation," Zabaleta said. "Meanwhile we're hoping and we're praying for a speedy recovery of the female that was impacted from what appears to be the same projectile."
Relatives who picked up the kids didn't want to speak with reporters. Neighbors didn't know the couple because according to the landlord, they had just started renting the home on March 1.
“It's shocking, I would never expect waking up in the morning and seeing something like this in my neighborhood,” said neighbor Tamatane Anga.
Officials haven't released the identities of the man or woman. The incident remains under investigation.
