A man who was arrested while trying to board a flight to Brazil is now facing murder charges in the shooting deaths of his ex-girlfriend and another man in Miami Lakes, authorities said.
Thales Ferreira, 27, was arrested at Miami International Airport Thursday night and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of 32-year-old Jenny Koonoolai-Jagdeo and 26-year-old Michael Tarulli, Miami-Dade Police said.
The bodies of Koonoolai-Jagdeo and Tarulli were discovered Thursday morning at an apartment near New Barn Road and Main Street. Both were shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.
According to an arrest report, officers had responded to the apartment Wednesday night for a report of a suspicious person banging on the door. Koonoolai-Jagdeo told officers her ex-boyfriend, Ferreira, had been stalking her, the report said. A neighbor reported hearing about 10 gunshots in the area shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday, the report said.
The report said a witness who apparently knows Ferreira said Ferreira had taken a handgun from his home. Ferreira returned to the home Thursday morning and told the witness he had taken the firearm and killed someone, the report said.
Detectives later learned that Ferreira had bought a plane ticket to Brazil that was leaving at 6:10 Thursday night from MIA, the report said. He was arrested while trying to board the flight.
Ferreira, who lives in Coconut Creek, was booked into jail and being held Friday. Attorney information wasn't available.
