Man Arrested in Connection With Fort Lauderdale Bank Robbery: FBI

A man has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a Fort Lauderdale bank, the FBI said Thursday.

Joseph Manuel Martinez, 48, was arrested without incident early Thursday by Fort Lauderdale Police officers, FBI spokesman Michael Leverock said.

A tip from the public helped lead to the arrest, Leverock said. Footage showed officers taking Martinez into custody outside the Sunrise Inn and Apartments.

Cheryl Seebach said she had seen photos of the bank robbery and was able to identify the suspect as Martinez, her friend's boyfriend, and she turned him in.

"That's one less person out here that I have to worry about," Seebach said. "That's definitely the type of individual we don't want to have on the street."

Martinez is facing federal charges in connection with Wednesday's robbery of the Sun Trust Bank at 1601 S. Federal Highway.

According to the FBI, the robber walked into the bank shortly after 9:30 a.m. and demanded cash from an employee. An undisclosed amount of money was taken.

No one was injured in the robbery. The suspect's only disguise was a hat and sunglasses.
