Woman standing by car after crash struck and killed in 2nd crash on I-95 in Broward

The victim was transported to Broward Health North where she was pronounced dead. Her identity hasn't been released

A woman who was hit and killed while standing outside her car on I-95 after a car accident is the latest case of similar crashes on the highway. NBC6’s Chris Hush reports

A woman who was standing next to a car after a crash was killed when she was struck by a vehicle involved in a second crash on Interstate 95 in Broward early Monday.

Florida Highway Patrol officials said the incident happened in the northbound lanes of I-95 north of Oakland Park Boulevard shortly before 6 a.m.

One of the people involved told investigators he was speaking with a woman who was standing outside the vehicle after an initial crash that involved four vehicles when a secondary crash occurred.

As a result of the second crash, a Ford pickup truck lost control and flipped, hitting the woman who was standing next to the other vehicle.

The victim was transported to Broward Health North where she was pronounced dead. Her identity hasn't been released but officials said she was 53 and from Fort Lauderdale.

Aerial images at the scene showed an overturned vehicle and emergency crews working at the scene, while long lines of vehicles could be seen around 7 a.m.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 42-year-old man from Hialeah, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

All northbound lanes of Interstate 95 were closed, and traffic was diverted. The lanes were closed for around six hours.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
