A driver was killed and a passenger was hospitalized after a crash involving a Publix truck on US 1 in southwest Miami-Dade.

A fatal accident involving a semi-truck and a car had a section of US-1 shut down in both directions in Southwest Miami-Dade Tuesday.

Chopper 6 was over the scene shortly before 5 a.m. near Southwest 146th Street in Palmetto Bay, where a Publix truck was seen in the middle of the road with a car - which had been traveling north when it hit the truck - heavily damaged underneath it.

The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.

Drivers were advised to take alternate routes as the road was closed at 144th Street to the north and 152nd Street to the south.
