A Broward judge will officially sentence Nikolas Cruz to life in prison for killing 17 people in the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
Those 12 jurors plus 10 alternates were chosen after a nearly three-month process.
With the jury set, opening statements and witness testimony began on July 18 for the death penalty trial. After a couple weeks off, defense attorneys began to present their case on Monday, Aug. 22. The defense rested on Sept. 14.
Closing arguments were delivered on Oct. 11 and the jury began deliberations the next day, Oct. 12.
On Oct. 13, the jury decided that Cruz should get life in prison without parole.
Cruz, now 24, pleaded guilty in October 2021 to 17 counts of first-degree murder and 17 counts of attempted murder in the shooting.
