Hurricane Ian, one of the strongest storms to ever hit the United States, made landfall Friday on coastal South Carolina after leaving catastrophic damage across Florida Thursday.
The Category 1 hurricane came ashore near Georgetown leaving portions of Charleston's downtown peninsula flooded.
The monster storm threatened storm surge, heavy rain and flooding Friday from South Carolina to Virginia.
Ian slammed into the southwest Florida coastline Wednesday then ripped through the central part of the state before emerging in the Atlantic Thursday.

2022 Hurricane Season
The storm flooded homes on both of the state's coasts, cut off the only bridge to a barrier island, destroyed a historic waterfront pier and knocked out electricity to more than 2 million Florida homes and businesses.
"The impacts of this storm are historic, and the damage that was done has been historic," Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said. "We've never seen a flood event like this, we've never seen storm surge of this magnitude."
