Police said the driver left the scene but was later stopped in Plantation in the area of Sunrise Boulevard and Northwest 47th Avenue.
The hit-and-run happened outside a busy shopping plaza. Many people were outside and said they witnessed everything, including Diondre Noel, who said he was feet away.
“From what I saw, he clearly tried to kill him,” Noel said. “It was intentional, it was complete and utter intentional.”

He said he watched from start to finish as a blue Nissan Rogue ran over the officer multiple times.
“The guy in the blue Nissan Rogue backed up his vehicle and proceeded to run over the police officer and the lady he was talking to,” Noel said. “He then proceeded to back up and run over them multiple times, trying to kill the police officer. The police officer got up and hid for his life behind the trees.”
Police officers spent hours inside a Tesla in the parking lot. The Tesla’s owner said the cameras on her vehicle captured the entire incident.
Noel tried to get video of his own.
“I ran over to try and record, the car turned around and started heading my way,” Noel said. “We ran over to try and help the police officer and see if he was okay and if the lady was okay. He was badly damaged, and I think his leg was broken, half of his face was marred and he was complaining about breathing.”
Aerial footage showed law enforcement at both scenes, with a vehicle possibly involved stopped at the scene in Plantation.
The incident remains under investigation by police from Sunrise and Lauderhill.
