King Carter Murder Suspect Wants Bail Set Ahead of Trial

Leonard Adams, charged in the shooting death of King Carter, appears in court as he seeks bail. Carter’s father also attends the hearing

One of the teen suspects charged in the murder of King Carter, 6, made his case Friday to be set free. Tensions ran high in the courtroom, as Carter's father stormed out.

Leonard Adams and Carter's father stared each other down during the hearing. King Carter died in a hail of bullets in February as he played outside his home.

Police arrested Adams, Irwin Pressley and Tamar Teems for Carter's murder. All have been in jail with no bond since their arrests. But Friday, Adams asked the judge to give him bail.

A witness was in the area at the time of the fatal shooting, and said he and Carter's father were looking for the child after the shootout. They found him in front of the apartment's rental office.

The senseless murder outraged the community, and many were in court for the hearing, including Carter's parents and numerous family members.

Thursday, Adams' mother, Tameka Thompson, was arraigned on charges of helping her son hide the black Lexus involved in the shooting. She's accused of paying an acquaintance $50 to get rid of it.

During a later court date, the judge will rule on whether Adams can bond out until his trial starts.
