More than 400 beach-goers have been stung by jellyfish at a central Florida beach during Memorial Day weekend.
The people were stung primarily in the Cocoa Beach are, Florida Today reported.
The small reddish-colored jellyfish with purplish stinging barbs had targeted people's legs, arms and torsos, the newspaper reported.
"You have your usual welts, and complaints of itching and pain," said Eisen Witcher, Brevard County Ocean Rescue assistant chief. "We've had a lot of disgruntled people who came here to enjoy the beach on the holiday weekend -- and they can't get into the water because there's so many jellyfish.

Witcher said the mauve stingers were expected to continue floating along area beaches Monday because of wind and ocean-current patterns.
Witcher took photos of hundreds of stranded mauve stingers Sunday morning at Lori Wilson Park.
