Two men have died after a small boat and a yacht collided near Boca Chita Key, Florida Fish and Wildlife officials confirmed to NBC6.

According to the FWC, officers were notified Sunday of an accident involving two boats in Miami-Dade County.

Preliminary information found one of the vessels, a 51-foot Azimut yacht, had seven people on board, and a 17-foot Key West vessel had another seven people on board.

Both boats were in South Biscayne Bay when the collision happened for unknown reasons at about 6:45 p.m., officials said.

"I come outside and I just people say 'hey, someone could've possibly died or something,'" said a witness who was nearby after the incident happened. "I was just shocked because I didn't think it would happen today."

Video captured by NBC6 at the scene showed heavy police presence at Black Point Marina and people getting off a boat with life jackets on.

The operator and a passenger on board the 17-foot vessel, both men, were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Both men died as a result of their injuries, officials said. Their identities have not been released.
