IKEA broke ground Tuesday on what will be it's first store in Miami-Dade County, second in South Florida and largest in the state.
"For customers who are familiar with IKEA stores and hopefully have been shopping at IKEA Sunrise, it's the same product selection, the same restaurant, the supervised children's play area, just everything will be bigger and there will be more of the products to buy," IKEA spokesman Joseph Roth said.

Long before the first bulldozer rumbled across some 14 and a half acres of land in Sweetwater, the Swedish furniture giant was shopping for the perfect site.
"We've been looking for ten years in Miami-Dade County and we're thrilled that we finally have one that's big enough with good visibility and here we are breaking ground," Roth said.
The giant retailer known for its affordable, chic products will sit north of Dolphin Mall, and face the east side of the Florida Turnpike.

"It's going to be a mecca, it's going to be a hub, between the mall, the universities that are in the area and IKEA, it's just going to be an area where a lot of people are going to come to, a lot of people are going to congregate," Sweetwater Mayor Manny Marono said. "and IKEA's kind of like an activity, you go there, you spend all day."
