"Midwest District officers were dispatched to the area in order to assist in locating a vehicle, those officers received a call to assist from Doral PD, Doral PD received a call from concerned family members who had not heard from a loved one in a few hours," Miami-Dade Police Det. Andre Martin said.

A friend of the victim said it was the victim's family who found him using a phone locator app, which pinged to his phone where he was found dead in the vehicle near some train tracks.

The friend said when the victim was found his hands were tied and he was visibly injured, with his face covered with a shirt.

"At this time the method of death in this case is undetermined, the medical examiner would be able to give us some information on how that occurred," Martin said.

It's unclear whether the home invasion is connected to the man found dead in the car.

“We cannot discredit whether or not this incident is related to a home invasion that occurred within the Doral PD jurisdiction,” Martin said.

NBC6 spotted police at a La Quinta hotel on Northwest 42nd Avenue in connection with the case though police wouldn't say what the connection was.

“There are a lot of moving pieces to this investigation and various locations are being looked at as possibly being involved before our victim came to his final resting place,” Martin said. “There is more than one location being looked at in relation to this investigation.”

The incident remains under investigation.
