The elderly victim of Saturday's early morning hit-and-run crash in Aventura has been identified.
Two joggers discovered the body of 70-year-old Richard James Flaherty in the median between NE 199th Street and 29th Place around 7 a.m.
Aventura Police said Flaherty was hit sometime before 3:30 a.m. while crossing NE 199th Street in the crosswalk.
Police later located the vehicle involved in the crash, and said the suspected driver is cooperating with investigators.
Flaherty was a decorated combat veteran, who received the Silver Star and several Bronze Stars for valor during combat in the Vietnam War.
