Hialeah Walmart Evacuated After Woman Lights Fires Inside Store: Police

Police say the woman they arrested set three fires inside the store Monday night, causing customers to evacuate.

A Hialeah Gardens Walmart was evacuated and temporarily closed off Monday night after a woman lit three separate fires in different parts of the store, police said.

The incident happened at around 9 p.m. at the supercenter's location at 9300 NW 77th Avenue, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.

A woman reportedly set a fire in the bathroom and two other fires on the floor, police said. Employees and shoppers were able to extinguish them.

Cellphone video shows shoppers and employees quickly leaving the store. They evacuated as a precaution and no one was injured, police said.

Officers detained a woman nearby after reviewing surveillance footage. She was later identified as 36-year-old Sasha Guillen Alarid. She was charged with arson and criminal mischief.

Several agencies, including Hialeah Gardens and Miami-Dade police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, responded to the incident.
