Hialeah Man Killed After Being Hit By Bus While Driving Motor Bicycle

A man riding a motorized bicycle was struck and killed by a Miami-Dade Transit bus in Hialeah Sunday.

An accident Sunday claimed the life of a 31-year-old Hialeah man after the motor bicycle he was riding collided with a county transit bus.

Police said the accident occurred near the intersection of West 3rd Court and 68th Street.

The investigation is ongoing, but officers said Gabriel Alexander Rodriguez was riding along side the bus on his motor bicycle when the two collided near the intersection.

"It's crazy, I don't believe it yet," said Arley Diaz, a family friend of the victim. "He rode bike often, he has two kids, he's a really good guy."

The driver of the bus was not injured in the accident. While no decision has been made about fault, those who live in the area said the intersection is dangerous and something needs to be done.

"This curve is crazy. It says 20 miles an hour and people go 50," Diaz said.

The Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works released the following statement:

"Our heartfelt condolences are with the family and friends. Given that the incident remains under investigation, the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works cannot comment further at this time."
