Half-Eaten Shark Washes Ashore on Florida Beach

Florida beachgoers saw an odd surprise over the weekend when a half-eaten shark washed ashore.

Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue said the shark washed ashore on New Smyrna Beach Inlet late Saturday morning.

“This is not too common but we do have a lot of species living in the ocean and the sick/injured do often wash up on the beach,” said beach safety spokesperson Tamra Marris in a statement.

Officials do not know what type of predator attacked the shark or how far offshore it was.

Spotting sharks lurking near Florida beaches during the winter months is not uncommon.

Last week, drone video captured thousands of sharks swimming off the coast of Palm Beach County during an annual migration.
