Fuel Truck Fire Delays American Airlines Flight's Departure From Miami International Airport: Official

A fuel truck caught on fire near an American Airlines plane at Miami International Airport Monday night, delaying the flight’s departure, but no one was injured, the airline said.

Flight 1664 was supposed to depart from MIA for Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport at 9 p.m., the O’Hare website said. But a fuel truck caught on fire at about 8:50 p.m., an American Airlines spokeswoman said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue quickly extinguished the fire, she said.

The aircraft was not damaged, but some of the foam that was used to put out the fire got on a wing of the Boeing 757, so the passengers were taken off the plane and put on another one, the spokeswoman said.

The rescheduled flight was still en route to O’Hare early Tuesday.
