Former Miami-Dade Officer Arrested For Allegedly Filing Fake Military Leave Forms

A former Miami-Dade police officer is finding himself in trouble after allegedly lying about needing leave from the department to serve in the Florida National Guard – and taking thousands of dollars in pay from the agency as a result.

William Weaver II was arrested last week on three felony counts, including grand theft, for submitting two fraudulent orders saying he needed to report for service – despite having previously been discharged, according to an arrest warrant obtained Tuesday.

The 34-year-old Weaver, who joined the MDPD in 2007, was discovered to have submitted fake paperwork for two separate requested in July and September of 2015, the warrant said.

Weaver claimed 62 hours of military leave pay during that time, getting just over $2,250 from Miami-Dade Police.

Officials from MDPD spoke with Florida National Guard staff, who informed them that Weaver had been discharged back in October 2012.
