The National Weather Service is warning swimmers from the Tampa-St. Petersburg area south to Fort Myers of dangerous high tides and rip currents.
Forecasters on Tuesday released the warning for the Gulf of Mexico.
Meteorologists said they expect large, breaking waves and dangerous rip currents through Wednesday. It's due to rare, long swells in the Gulf moving ashore.
The forecasters felt the need to warn people because the hot temperatures mean lots of tourists are at local beaches.
The service's Ruskin office has also issued a small craft advisory as 7 to 10-foot swells move ashore.
