Florida Supreme Court To Reprimand Broward Judge

The Florida Supreme Court ordered the reprimand for Circuit Judge Dale Cohen

A Broward County judge is facing a public reprimand in part for calling his wife to the witness stand and questioning her.

The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the reprimand for Circuit Judge Dale Cohen but did not immediately set a date.

The unanimous ruling cited Cohen for violating several judicial canons, including allowing family relationships to influence his judgment.

Cohen's wife, Mardi Levy Cohen, is now a Broward County judge, but she was an unsuccessful candidate when her husband had her testify in 2009.

She testified on one of several motions by Stephen Melnick asking her husband to recuse himself from the lawyer's cases because Melnick had supported her opponent. The justices also cited Dale Cohen for having off-the-record conversations with his wife about the recusal requests.
