Florida State Agency Evacuated Due to Letter

About 1,500 employees forced to evacuate Department of Highway Safety and Motor Safety Vehicles building for anthrax scare

State and local authorities are examining a state agency building in Tallahassee after a suspicious letter was discovered.

Roughly 1,500 employees were forced to evacuate the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Safety Vehicles building on Monday. The office is nearly four miles east of the Florida Capitol.

A Tallahassee Fire Department official told reporters that an envelope was found in the records office that said there was anthrax inside. But nothing was inside the envelope, which was addressed to the executive director of the agency.

Employees have been told to return to the building later today.

The letter is going to be handed over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for further examination. The seven employees who work in the office are being examined for any signs of contamination.
