Authorities battled a blaze at an inactive FPL power plant at Port Everglades on Tuesday.
The fire began during the demolition of the out-of-service power plant at about 3 p.m. and was under control by 4 p.m., FPL spokeswoman Alys Daly said.
Hazardous materials teams from the Broward Sheriff's Office and Hollywood Fire Rescue responded to the plant, located at 8100 Eisenhower Blvd. The fire was located on a titanium pipe filled with seawater, authorities said.
FPL workers were evacuated, and there were two small explosions, but no one was injured.
Employees will be back on the site Wednesday, Daly said.
