The term “Florida Man” has caught so much attention on all over the country and the entire world as the wild headlines have been on almost every news outlet and every late night and had become a completely phenomenon.
Comedians are talking about it - even Oxygen Network, owned by NBCUniversal - is already working for a TV series based on this mythic character.
Now, you can hear “Florida Man” singing “New York, New York” because it will make its debut off-Broadway.
Michael P. Bobbitt, a Gainesville resident and the author of the comedy “Florida Man”, described him as “wild, subversive and deep” because his non-stop stories could lead to drugs, alligators or even both as he is planning to tell the realistic side of Florida to all the New Yorkers who are planning to retire in the Sunshine State.
“The guy who threw the alligator through the drive-through window of the Wendy’s was pretty great,” said Bobbitt. “We had a story of a guy who heard a legend of some cocaine that was buried on an island in the Bahamas and he set up a whole team to go get it, but all the people that he hired were FBI informants,” he laughed.
But this is not the first time for Bobbitt to produce in Broadway, in fact, his last summer showcase “Sunset Village” was a complete success and it got very popular.

“It sold every single ticket for every seat, and then we added bonus shows,” said the director originally from Polk County. “Those were sold out in a matter of minutes and we had a thousand of people in our waiting list who couldn’t get in.”
Bobbitt thinks he has seen it all thanks to his real estate job, which helped him travel across 67 counties in the state. “I want to tell outrageous stories that very thinly mask heavier and intimate issues that we all deal with,” he said.
The play premieres July 31st and runs to August 3rd at New York’s Theatre Row Studios on 42nd Street, New York. If you live in Florida and can’t wait to see this news personality, the show will also play in Gainesville on October 25th until November 10th.
