Florida Gov. Announces Nearly $80M in Infrastructure Projects for South Florida

The Governor, who is up for re-election this November, has made several stops in South Florida during the month of January

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced nearly $80 million in infrastructure projects for South Florida cities aimed at helping flooding concerns.

DeSantis made the announcement at a Friday morning news conference at Port Everglades, where he was joined by Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Secretary Dane Eagle. Broward County Mayor Michael Udine and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.

The money for the projects will "make a real difference for the folks who live here," DeSantis said.

Among the money given was $16 million for Broward County to help fund storm drainage improvements, $14 million for Hallandale Beach for sewer improvements and $3.2 million to North Lauderdale for improvements to a storm water pump station.

The city of Miami was awarded $40 million for two storm water infrastructure projects while the city of Opa-locka was given $7 million for flood protection projects.

DeSantis praised the state's decisions on infrastructure and ports, including construction projects implemented during the pandemic.

The governor, who is up for re-election this November, has made several stops in South Florida during the month of January.

He spoke Wednesday at Miami-Dade College's North campus and at Broward Health on January 3rd, first calling on the federal government to distribute more monoclonal antibody treatments and later demanding the treatments that were pulled after they were deemed ineffective against the omicron variant.
