Investigators say a Florida co-pilot involved in an Ohio plane crash that killed nine people was fired from his previous job because he lagged behind in training and lost track of details.
National Transportation Safety Board documents released Wednesday didn't draw conclusions about the Nov. 10 crash at Akron Fulton International Airport. But the Palm Beach Post reports the NTSB indicated that 50-year-old Flight Officer Renato Marchese of Boynton Beach controlled the jet on its approach under the captain's monitoring.
According to the documents, Marchese was fired from his previous job partly because he had problems calculating airplanes' weight and balance.
Execuflight of Boca Raton operated the flight, and its president says Marchese's performance in the company's own evaluations and training was satisfactory.
Seven employees of a commercial real estate firm also died in the crash.
