A father was injured after saving his family from a fire that broke out inside of their Northwest Miami-Dade home early Friday morning.

Fire Rescue units arrived at the scene near Northwest 59th Street and 15th Avenue, as the family of five was able to evacuate before flames took over the inside of the home.

"It got real hot in our room and I smelled something burning and I jumped up and... the whole room was covered in smoke," said Constance Doughty, who lives at the home with her husband, Darryl Manning, and their three children.

Manning, according to his wife, jumped out of a window and used a garden hose to help fight the flames before crews arrived, allowing his family to get out. A dog was also inside the home at the time of the blaze.

Manning was treated for injuries and taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where his condition is unknown at this time. Doughty was treated at the scene for minor injuries while none of their three children inside the home were injured.

An initial investigation says it looks like a faulty air conditioning unit was the cause, but that has not been confirmed. The American Red Cross is assisting the family at this time.
