Father shot and killed by son after dispute ends in shootout in SW Miami-Dade home

Police are investigating after a son shot and killed his father during a dispute at a southwest Miami-Dade home.

A dispute between family members ended in an exchange of gunfire between a father and his son inside a southwest Miami-Dade home Sunday night that left the father dead, police said.

According to Miami-Dade Police, the shooting occurred just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday at a home in the area of Southwest 297th Terrace and Southwest 161st Court.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired at the home and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.

The father was identified by police Monday as 46-year-old Kirsten Williams.

Detectives learned there had been a domestice dispute among family members in the home at at some point, the father, Williams, and his 23-year-old son pulled out guns and exchanged gunfire.

Williams was struck but the son wasn't injured. The son called 911 after the shootout, police said.

The mother and son were being interviewed by investigators.

"Our investigators are still working to piece together the exact history of all these people who are involved," Miami-Dade Police Det. Andre Martin said. "We're working to confirm all the facts that led to the shooting."
