A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer who struck a pedestrian and crashed into a canal while fleeing the scene in Hialeah Gardens has been arrested, authorities said.

Ibis Sepulveda, 42, is charged with leaving the scene of a crash causing injury in the Monday night incident, according to an arrest report.

Sepulveda was arrested late Monday and released on bond. It's unknown if she's hired an attorney.

NBC 6 reached out to Customs and Border Protection officials Tuesday but haven't heard back.

According to the arrests reports, Sepulveda was behind the wheel of a maroon Ford when she struck a worker at a towing company in the area of 92nd Avenue and Northwest 119th Street.

The victim, Jorge Delgado, was struck on his arm by the right side rear view mirror of her car, the reports said. Delgado said he saw the car take off at a high rate of speed as two witnesses took off after the vehicle to try to get the license plate, the reports said.

Witnesses said the car lost control and landed in the canal along Northwest 87th Court. A man jumped into the water to rescue Sepulveda, witnesses said.

Both Delgado and Sepulveda were treated at the scene for their injuries.

Sepulveda told officers she didn't notice hitting Delgado and didn't remember why she was driving so fast, the reports said. She was arrested and booked into jail.
