The South Florida man found guilty of killing his ex-wife's new husband was sentenced to 45 years behind bars Friday.
Cristobal Palacio, 46, had been convicted of second-degree murder and two counts of child abuse in August in the killing of Paul Winter four years ago in Palacio's Kendall driveway.
Authorities say Palacio gunned down Winter in a jealous rage in front of his ex-wife and Palacio's 6-year-old twin daughters, which earned him two counts of child abuse.
Palacio Takes Stand in Murder Trial
Palacio will serve five years in prison on the child abuse charges, which he'll serve concurrent with the murder sentence.
“He’ll do 30 years, day for day, and then he’ll do about 85 percent, give or take, of the remaining 15 years," prosecutor Joe Mansfield predicted.
Though he fired six times, Palacio had claimed he shot Winter in self-defense, saying he thought Winter, who wasn't armed, was going for a gun.
