Three vessels were destroyed overnight Tuesday after catching fire in a Pompano Beach marina.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue crews were called to the marina along 2708 North Ocean Boulevard in Pompano Beach just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. The fire started on the west side of the Hillsboro Inlet in one vessel and spread to surrounding vessels.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire and contain the blaze to the three boats.
Local fishermen believe the vessel where the fire started was just having repair work done on Monday. Many of them rushed to the marina to save their own vessels once news spread of the fires.
"We've got three generations of fishing here and it breaks my heart," said fisherman Chip Hunt. "We've never seen anything like this."
Hunt managed to save his own boat, and said his did not sustain much damage.
Many local fishermen are trying to remain positive throughout the ordeal. One fishermen told NBC 6 he feels a mix of relief and sadness.
