A Coral Springs man faces two charges after police said he had sex with the family dog and then killed it.
Michael Haimes, 29, had sex with the dog on Monday at his home on the 5300 block of East Leitner Drive, a police complaint affidavit said. When the dog was bleeding afterward, Haimes, who feared getting caught, took the animal outside, where he repeatedly stabbed it, cut its throat and threw it in the bushes, the affidavit said.
Police said they went to his home on “a mental illness call” Tuesday and smelled the odor of a decomposing body, before they discovered a leash and the dog nearby.
Haimes is charged with sexual contact with an animal and causing cruel death, pain and suffering to an animal, according to online Broward Sheriff’s Office records.

"The court is concerned with what appears to be absolutely just spontaneous, unforeseen, inappropriate violence to an animal," Broward Circuit Judge John Hurley said as he set Haimes’ bond at $100,000 Wednesday, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. "The court lacks confidence in the defendant's ability to control his own behavior."
The judge also ordered Haimes to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, and wear an ankle monitor and not have contact with animals should he post bond.
