Coral Springs Man Accused of Fatally Stabbing His Mother Held Without Bond

Dee Jony Etienne, 30, faces a first-degree murder charge in the killing of his mother Joceleine Pericles, 53.

Dee Jony Etienne, 30, appeared in bond court Monday before Broward Circuit Judge John “Jay” Hurley, who read from an arrest report detailing the allegations against him. Coral Springs Police Lt. Joe McHugh discussed the large area where Etienne was able to hide before he was apprehended.

A Coral Springs man accused of fatally stabbing his mother over the weekend was held without bond on Monday.

Dee Jony Etienne, 30, faces a first-degree murder charge in the killing of his mother Joceleine Pericles, 53.

Broward Circuit Judge John "Jay" Hurley read from the arrest report during the hearing.

“The witness saw you standing over the victim, punching her about the head, pulling her by the arm, and yelling for her to get into the residence," Hurley said.

Pericles died from stab wounds to the head and upper torso, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

"Obviously something must have went wrong inside his head," said Lt. Joe McHugh. "For somebody to stab their mother, that's a horrific crime to commit."

Etienne was apprehended hours after the stabbing in a wooden area near the Crescent Cove Apartment Complex. He was bitten by a police dog after he failed to surrender, officials said.

While being placed into custody, Etienne said that “the knife was left behind in the house,” according to authorities.

It was allegedly covered in Pericles' blood, Hurley said in court.

Etienne hobbled over to a podium during his appearance in court Monday.

Coral Spring Police were alerted to the alleged crime after a caller told them that there was a woman screaming for help. He told authorities that he saw a man “standing over the victim punching her about her body, pulling her arm and yelling for her to get into the residence,” the affidavit said.
