A new COVID-19 vaccination site has opened at Inter Miami's stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
Broward Health was partnering with the team and the City of Fort Lauderdale to begin vaccinations at Inter Miami CF Stadium at Lockhart Park on Tuesday.
The site will be open Monday through Friday and expects to vaccinate up to 500 pre-registered patients a day. Officials said they hope to increase that to 1,000 per day in the future.
"There is no issue right now with capacity, so long as we continue these numbers, and we pivot and do more, we will continue to have those conservations with the state to assure we can replenish," Broward Health's Dr. Aldo Calvo said.
Patients must pre-register to be eligible for vaccination and be age 65 and over, office staff of Broward Health's credentialed physicians, EMS, or non-credentialed community healthcare providers who do not have access to the vaccine, as well as their office staff.
As of Tuesday, at least 1,500 vaccinations had been scheduled out of some 30,000 requests, officials said.
Katheryn Remsem was among the first seniors to get their vaccine shot at the stadium Tuesday.

"I haven’t been anywhere since last March. Next week, I hope to go to north Florida and that’s a long way for me," she said.
Patients must pre-register at BrowardHealth.org, and no walk-ups will be accepted.
