North Miami Beach Police are investigating after a body was found inside a boat Monday afternoon.
It was found near 172nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard around 3 p.m. There's construction underway in the area, and a worker on one of the cranes spotted the body, then alerted authorities.
Police said this is being treated as a death investigation, as investigators determine whether this was a natural death or crime-related.
Arson units were also called to the scene.
"We did notice that there were some kind of burn marks within the vessel. We are working this investigation jointly with the Miami-Dade Fire Department's Arson Investigation Unit," said Sgt. Jason Ochoa with NMB Police.
Investigators don't know how long the boat had been in the water, but said it's not unusual for people to drop anchor and live aboard boats in the waterways.
The Medical Examiner's Office removed the man's body around 9 p.m. Monday. His name and cause of death have not been released.
