Wildlife officials have caught the Weston black bear, again.
This time, the 310-pound omnivore was pulling cameo appearances in Wellington, about month after he was moved to a more bear-friendly habitat in Collier County.
But the allure of big city lights and dumpsters filled with goodies were too much for the bear to let go. The Wellington/Weston bear had been seen throughout front yards and golf courses of Palm Beach County all week. He was caught Wednesday near the Palms West Hospital.
Florida Wildlife Commission officials knew it was the same nuissance bear because of a tag on its ear. But what do you do with a bear that keeps finding its way back to people?
That's a question FWC officials are pondering as the bear is still sleeping from the tranquilizer dart that took it down. Chances are relocating the bear will only lead it back to humans.
There are between 2,500 and 3,000 black bears in the state, according to the FWC. They are currently listed as a threatened species.
