One person was taken into custody after a house fire in Brownsville that left two dead early Friday.

It happened at a home on NW 19th Avenue and NW 53rd Street at around 3 a.m.

Two people who lived in the home, a man and a woman, were pulled from the residence and taken to Ryder Trauma Center, Miami-Dade police said, but they did not survive.

Their names were not immediately released.

The fire prompted response from arson investigators and homicide detectives, but authorities did not provide more information on a potential cause.

It's also unclear how many other people were inside at the time of the fire.

An unidentified man was taken from the scene in handcuffs on Friday afternoon.

Images showed firefighters entering into the home as flames are visible through a broken window.

When first responders arrived, they saw the home fully engulfed, police said.

Neighbors like Vera Lewis awoke to smoke and sirens.

"There was people across the street looking very frantic, like they don’t know what’s going on," she said.

Another neighbor said in Spanish that he knew the people who died. He said the victims were always so nice to him, sharing mangoes from the tree in their yard.

"I don’t even know what to say, it's so hard for me, you know, hearing this," neighbor Leonie Johnson said. "All I can say is God be with them."
