Police are investigating after apparent human remains were found in a luxury apartment building in downtown Miami on Monday, officials said.

According to Miami Police, the remains were found at the building at 100 Northwest 6th Street in downtown Miami.

Building management called in the discovery shortly before 10 a.m.

Police said they found the body parts, possibly belonging to a man, in a trash chute. Multiple officers and the medical examiner responded and the remains were removed.

Officials have released few details but said detectives are trying to determine how the remains ended up there.

"They’re working to determine whether this is going to be a self-inflicted incident or if it’s completely isolated," Miami Police spokesperson Kiara Delva said.

Police are asking residents and anyone in the area to avoid the area in an effort to avoid interfering with the ongoing investigation.
