The victim, identified as Flavio Alejandro Morales, died at the hospital.
Residents in the area were left rattled by the shooting.
“I was showering, and I heard like three to four gunshots," said a resident. "I was questioning if it was gunshots or not. Then I went to the kitchen after I was done showering, and I heard the helicopter going around."
Authorities said Morales had been playing sports when he was involved in the verbal altercation with the suspect, who pulled out a firearm and shot him.
The subject fled the scene.
"At this time, no arrest has been made, which is why we're asking the community to please come forward with any information," Det. Joseph Peguero said. "We do see the need for obviously the enforcement that we have going on. We are everywhere, but this is a joint team, we need the community's effort."
Peguero also had a message for the community.
"If you are involved in an altercation with anybody else to please just walk away, it’s not worth the argument," he said.
