Advisory Issued After Sewer Spill in Biscayne Canal, Intracoastal Area

Officials have issued a precautionary advisory to avoid contact with water in part of the Biscayne Canal and Intracoastal area following a sewer line break.

The 63-inch sewer line break at 840 Northwest 155th Lane caused waste water to enter the Biscayne Canal before flowing into the Intracoastal, Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer officials said Tuesday.

The public advisory is to not have contact with water within Biscayne Canal / C-8 from 27th Avenue to the Bay and the Biscayne Bay West of the Intracoastal Waterway from Broad Causeway to 79th Street Causeway including Pelican Harbor Marina, as well as the Biscayne Aquatic Park.

Signs have been posted along the affected areas. The Florida Department of Health will be testing the impacted waters.
