A tropical depression could form in the Atlantic by the end of the week, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.
According to the NHC, the disturbance, which is located almost 3,000 miles east of South Florida and several hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, is in an unfavorable environment and development is not anticipated in the next couple of days.
The system is fighting dry air in the short term and only has a 10% chance of tropical development over the next 48 hours.
As the low heads west, it does move into a more favorable environment.

We are watching a new area of showers and storms in the central Atlantic. This disturbance has a 50% chance of development several days down the road. At this point, models are pulling this system north and/or having it absorbed by a front...keeping it away from us. @nbc6 pic.twitter.com/XsZhaMpQwC

In fact, we are forecasting a 50% chance of tropical development by the middle or later part of the week.
Models are consistent and we could see a depression near the Leeward Islands by the end of the week.
