More than $8 million dollars raised so far in a GoFundMe account for victims and survivors of the Parkland shooting tragedy will be distributed to anyone who was in the school on the day of the February 14th incident.
The Broward Education Foundation, who is in charge of creating the protocol and handling the distribution of funds, announced the decision while opening up the application process for all students, teachers and staff from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 people were killed and over a dozen more were injured.
All victims – as well as the families of those killed in the shooting – have until May 31st to apply online using this link. The official account, with over $8.2 million in donations, will close on June 30th with the money being distributed in July.
“These gifts are given to victims without any restriction on their use and the Fund is one part of an ongoing continuum of care in response to this tragedy,” BEF executive director Shea Ciriago said in a statement.
Victims will receive 100 percent of the funds, though officials have not said how the money would be distributed regarding the different groups applying – deceased victims, injured victims, those who were in the building where the shooting took place and those who were on campus at the time of the shooting.
