What to Know
- Officials have not released the identities of anyone that was shot as their investigation continues.
One person was killed and two others including a teen were rushed to the hospital after a shooting outside of a home in northwest Miami-Dade late Sunday.
Officers arrived at the scene near the 700 block of Northwest 116th Street, where Miami-Dade Police said three men on foot approached the home and opened fire just after 11 p.m.
Officials said some of the family members inside the home began shooting back.
Police say 20-year-old Jamal Pieze was killed while two others were hospitalized, including a 13-year-old who was shot in the head and was listed in critical but stable condition.
"Unfortunately, the 13-year-old was struck in the head while he was inside the residence during the gathering," Miami-Dade Police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said.
The other victim, a 21-year-old man, was treated and released from the hospital. Officials have not released the identities of anyone that was shot as their investigation continues.
"The focus on this case is the fact that a 13-year-old that was sitting inside a residence, getting ready to go to school the next day, is shot in the head, and instead of sitting in a classroom, he's now sitting in an ICU room, trying to fight for his life," Zabaleta said.
