A suspect who was already behind bars in an unrelated case is now facing a murder charge in the 2013 shooting death of a 21-year-old man in Miami-Dade.
Juan Salgado, 21, is facing second-degree murder and grand theft charges in the death of Christian Joseph McKenzie, Miami-Dade Police said Friday.
Salgado was already in the Desoto Correctional Institute on unrelated charges. It's unknown if he has an attorney.
McKenzie was reported missing on Nov. 14, 2013, after he didn't show up to work. His bullet riddled body was found the next day near his truck, which was abandoned in a remote area of southwest Miami-Dade, police said.
In January, detectives recovered a firearm that was owned by McKenzie, and it was determined that he had been killed with his own gun, police said.
The physical evidence and witness statements led detectives to Salgado, police said.
