Florida Highway Patrol said one person was killed and several others were injured in a rollover crash on Alligator Alley at mile marker 41 that shut down traffic in both directions on Interstate 75 Tuesday evening.
At least five vehicles were involved in the crash. Twelve patients were transported to the hospital, while four other people were treated at the scene of the incident.
The identity of the woman who was killed hasn't been released.
Officials said a van carrying 15 people rolled over during the crash, ejecting several people.
One woman was trapped under the van but was taken out with the help of a passerby who used a floor jack.
Traffic resumed on the southbound lane Tuesday evening.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
